KASTOR FIREPLACE INSERTS
TS-12, 21, 26, 36, 56, 57, 77

1. IMPORTANT

INFORMATION

‰

Kastor fireplace inserts are designed for use as
room heaters in weekend and holiday homes and in
private houses.

‰

They must not be used for any other purposes,
for example as laundry dryers, for heavy duty
heating of houses or buildings during construction
time etc.

‰

In addition, during the utilisation and when the
device is warm, the unit must not be covered in any
way or put any objects on it.

‰

It is also important that the air passages of the
device are not blocked or covered in any way. The
fireplace insert will be damaged, if air circulation is
restricted.

‰

Best heating result and safety is achieved when the
device doors are closed during the utilisation - you
can, of course, grill for example sausages with the
door open, provided that there is enough draught in
the chimney - but do not forget to close the door,
because sparks may fly out of the fireplace
.

‰

In case the insert, when not in use, has been
exposed to moisture (e.g. in the case of an
unheated holiday home), you must always inspect
the insert for corrosion damages before you
start use it again
. Before the fire is started, make
also sure that there is enough draught in the
chimney and that the chimney is undamaged.

‰

Kastor fireplace inserts are powerful heating
devices. Their highly efficient heating output is
based, among other things, on circulation of warm
air in the room, heat radiating from the insert and
heat transfer to the surrounding masonry. Hence,
the temperature of the door and the
surrounding structures can rise to a very high
levels. So, be careful! Note! A so called ”cold
handle” is included as standard equipment.

‰

Also the temperature of the masonry of the fireplace
rises to a high level, which means that any objects
sensitive to heat must not to be placed on or too
near these parts. In this respect one must also take
into account the hot air flowing from the upper part
of the fireplace insert and the effects of heat
radiation on the surroundings.

‰

The doors and the glasses must be handled with
care - do not slam the doors!

‰

Liquid fuels must not be used, even for starting the
fire. Danger of explosion!!!

‰

FAILURE TO OBSERVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
OR THE LOCAL AUTHORITY´S REGULATIONS
MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY AND
DAMAGE TO THE FIREPLACE INSERT!!!

‰

The current regulations prescribe that a
chimney fire, wether or not it is extinguished,
must be reported to the regional fire brigade
control.

Read all these instructions carefully before handling the
fireplace insert and retain them for future referance.

2. SAFETY DISTANCES AND FIRE SAFETY
Negligence of this instruction may cause risk of
fire!!
In case of installation of the insert in an existing open
fireplace or similar, no additional fire protection is
needed. However, if the floor near the insert is made of
combustible material, it must be covered for example
with a metal sheet, which extends 100 mm from the
sides and 400 mm from the doors.

However, in case the insert is installed in a so called
corner fireplace or in a fireplace, which has two open
sides, and the hot sides of the insert are not covered
with masonry, the safety distance is 1000 mm from the
metallic surfaces of the sides.

Models TS-56, -57: The safety distance from a bay
section extending outside the fireplace to a combustible
construction is, however, 500 mm sidewards, 600 mm
upwards and 500 mm downwards.

In case of installation in a new bricked up fireplace, we
strongly recommend masonry work to be done only
by skilled craftsmen
, who know the required safety
distances and other precautions. If in doubt, always
contact the local fire inspector.

3. INSTALLATION IN AN EXISTING OPEN
FIREPLACE
3.1. General
• The insert is installed in an open fireplace for use in

a furnace which is suitable in size.

• The front of the body of the insert is sealed to the

sides of the fireplace. Usually there is no need for
connecting a pipe between the insert and the
chimney; the only exception is so called open
installation described in section 3.5. The insert must
not be attached to the furnace in any way. Remove
the doors before installation.

3.2. Preparing the fireplace for installation, front
sealed installation, fig. 1
The bricked up opening of the furnace must be in
accordance with the enclosed table.
(Section 3.5). If
the opening is too large, it can be reduced in the
following ways:
• by bricking up the base and the sides using baked

or firebricks. In case lime sandstone is used, the
masonry must be lined inside the furnace with
firebricks.

• in case of a fireplace, in which the both sides are

open, the other side can be bricked up as described
above.
• using a bigger insert frame, which can ordered

separately.

• by installing the insert according to the instructions

given in section 3.5 (open installation).
