Never use volatile ignition fluids to start the fire. It may cause flash fires that might endanger

the user and the product!

Shut off all devices that lower atmospheric pressure in the room such as range hoods and

mechanical ventilation.

The furnace should have a sufficiently large load of wood to ensure that a high enough temperature is

reached quickly. At low temperatures the burning process does not work correctly and the fireplace

and chimney are stained with soot. The fire may also go out, if the chimney does not build up enough

draught (-12Pa). Devices causing low pressure must be shut off or the window opened during the

ignition phase until the chimney develops enough draught to counter the low pressure.

During the ignition phase, about 5 min., the air regulators can be kept open or the feed door ajar.

Once the fire is going, you use the air regulators to adjust the burning to the level you want.

During the ignition phase, you use smaller firewood with a diameter of ca. 2-5cm with a length of 25-

33cm.

The load weighs about 1,8kg.

Always lay out the logs horizontally towards the rear of the furnace, with those on top slightly crossed.

(Picture 7).

Usually, a crumpled newspaper page, small, dry wood chips or an ignition piece are sufficient to get

the fire going.

3.2.2. Adjusting the heat output

The heat output can be adjusted as follows: Using the air feed regulators (Picture 24), by adjusting the

draught in the chimney with the damper plate or with the amount of wood

Usually, you do not need to add more than three logs at a time. (Large logs burn longer, of course.)

Never close the damper plate too far or the fireplace starts leaking smoke into the room.

The fireplace has regulators for primary air (grate adjusted with 10mm thick round axle (Picture 24))

and upper air (flat adjuster with triangle pointing towards the opening direction). With these, the

burning process can be regulated to your liking.

Slow burn: Grate adjuster closed and upper air regulator about one quarter open.

Normal burn: Grate adjuster and upper air regulator halfway open.

The draught in the chimney affects the positions of the regulators, so these instructions depend on the

fireplace's location and environment.

3.2.3. Heating

During the proper heating phase the logs should have a length of 25-33cm and a diameter of 7-9cm. A

single loading should be 1,8kg at a time, which is about three logs.

Do not put too much wood into the furnace.

Always lay out the logs horizontally towards the rear of the furnace, with those on top slightly crossed.

(Picture 7).

Once the wood has burnt down to embers, add a new load. You may spread the embers out on the

furnace floor.

3.2.4. Longer term heating

Before you add new logs, spread out the glowing embers on the furnace floor. Then add 2-3 large logs

on top of them. Leave the regulator plate completely open to help the wood catch fire. Once it burns,

you can shut the grate completely and leave the upper air regulator about one quarter open. If the

draught is still strong, close the damper plate a bit more – but not so much that the smoke leaks into

the room.

3.3. Maintenance procedures

3.3.1. Maintaining the glass door

The glass is cleaned while it is cold. The easiest method is to use the efficient KASTOR NOKI-POIS

cleaning fluid (available in hardware stores). See instructions on the packaging.

Although the glass is hardened, it should be treated with care (do not knock it, slam the door etc.).
